GOLDEN LEAGUE

In 2006 The “iaaf Golden League” celebrates its ninth year of life with some relevant news. Originally it started with seven trials and the partecipants were obliged to win the all ones to compete at the Jackpot award. In 2003 the circuit was limited at six trials of which the Golden Gala of Rome was the third one.

THE FORMULA 2006

In 2006 the formula of the iaaf Golden League was totally reviewed to come close to the requirements of the athletes but mainly to give greater uncertainty to the entire race track. The Jackpot, that amounts now to one million euros, is split into two parts: the first one of 500 thousand euros will be shared out by the athletes who will succeed in five of the six trials in program (obviously always of the same event); the second one will concern the athletes who will succeed in winning all the six trials and that will contribute also to assign the following 500 thousand euros. Anyway, in order to gain the Jackpot all the athletes who deserved it, will have obliged to partecipate at the “iaaf World Athletics Final” scheduled in Stuttgart.

COMPETITIONS FOR 2006

In 2006 Athletes will compete in 11 valid competitions for the assignement of the Jackpot: six for men and five for women. The competitions are then divided in “Premium” and “Classic” in order to the different structure of prizes in money. The first trials are for men, the second ones for women. In addition to the two class of competitions “Golden League”, it might be also in every meeting four added races called “Promotional” as an optional choice of each individual organizing committee.
