A quarter of century to remember

The Golden Gala is now more than a quarter-of-a-century old. Created in 1980 to have a major athletics event in Rome, the meeting has soon played a significant role at international level especially in response to the Moscow Olympics boycott. The Olympic Stadium track provided a prestigious setting where athletes representing the Eastern and the Western blocks could compete together. Year after year, the Golden Gala has assumed an important place in the IAAF international schedule, becoming one of the world’s top athletics events. In Rome, every single edition of the meeting has been unique, offering never-ending emotions to the crowd (even when the meeting had to be organised in Verona, Pescara or Bologna). Over years, the Roman event featured the participation of the world’s best track and field athletes and, even today, big champions still love to compete in Rome.If you want to relive all the emotions of the past 25 years, please click on the links below.
